Jazmine Sullivan

JazmineJazmine was a Philadelphia native was raised and born in the city. Pam, Jazmine's mother, is an ex-backup singer from Philadelphia International Records. Her father gave her an appointment as curator at the Historic Strawberry Mansion. She and her family later moved in to the historic landmark. In 2005, a Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts graduates She is an instructor in the field of vocal music. Sullivan began singing in contralto with the children's choir, then after a couple of years, she joined the adult group. The exposure Sullivan had to secular music was initially limited "I was doing solos in the church, and I was asked to go on a gospel label when I had turned eleven, however I wasn't prepared to sign that contract," she recalls. "Then the time came that McDonald's had a competition for kids in major cities and I was offered the chance to perform 'Accept What God Wills' on Showtime in the Apollo and the audience responded really well". At the age 13 she sang along to Stevie Wonder for his grandson's birthday celebration. Sullivan began her contract with Jive Records at the age 15. At the age of 15 She was signed by Jive Records. She recorded an entire album at Jive Records, however it didn't get released. Sullivan was then eliminated on the labels. Missy Elliott was her producer on a couple of tracks on Her debut album. One of them was "Backstabbers" from Timbaland, which Elliott produced and produced, was her favorite song.
